Message test, but the fact is that when you pull into the station, it may be 30 minutes or more before your car gets tested. Even if you let it idle the entire time - your cats are not "lit" any more.

The "preconditioning" that was performed in the past is not part of the test in Kalifonia anymore. Your car must pass on the dyno without any special treatment.

"goofballs" are correct.. emission "cut points" are determined by a computer programmer - over night sometimes- so your test that passed this year may result in a "fail" two years from now. So, your 92 tt auto may actually be expected to run cleaner as it gets older.

I infer that you think you can "dial a pass" with the timing. When you are getting down to ppm ( parts per million) there are several issues that must be in sync to attain those levels.
